The  images on this site were captured  by many different  photographers and scientists working for different branches and agencies of the United States government. 

We try to maintain a  high resolution copy of all of the images you see on this site. While you may see a cut and paste image on another site like one that you have found here, you will not easily find the high number of  consistently high quality images that you see here. 

We carefully inspect each image that we obtain, individually, to ensure we present a not only a compelling image, but one of  high technical quality for web display, print, or your publishing needs.
